In my class there are three main norms that students should follow. They should be positive, productive, and prepared. On the first days of school, the students will work collaboratively to write specific examples of how they can demonstrate that they are being positive, productive, and prepared. I take their ideas and examples and I turn them into our class rules. I then usually write them on a large poster board and hang it on our wall where it is visible to all. Also, each student will receive a copy of this "class contract" and sign it, indicating that they will do their best this school year to follow these rules. Soon you will be able to download a copy of this "contract". Each year I also create a ClassDojo website that will allow you to see your child´s progress in these three areas: POSITIVE, PRODUCTIVE, and PREPARED. I will send home a sheet that has your code to register and login to our ClassDojo website. There are great incentives with this as well! Prizes that have been earned in previous years are extra recess, extra free reading time, and an appropriate movie and popcorn. On the other hand, if one or more students are not demonstrating good progress in these categories, they will begin to lose privileges such as recess. They will stay in the class to do classwork or homework, and will have to write a reflection essay. If this happens, I will contact you on via phone or email. If you have any questions, please let me know. Sincerely, Mrs. Rodriguez |
